While this will be differentiated at the country level, at its core will be strategies that simultaneously achieve poverty reduction, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

Our Core Values

GGGI’s five core values – Integrity, Transformational, Inclusive, Boldness, and Excellence provide the guiding framework for the way we work. We will continually engage our people to uphold our values, in order to embed an organizational culture that is innovative, collaborative and focused on delivering results against our mission as “ONE GGGI”.

How We Work

Our Strategy

GGGI Strategy 2030 sets the course for GGGI’s efforts to effectively support its Members needs’ in transforming their economies toward environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive green growth. The 2015 Paris Agreement calls for a strengthened global response to the threat of climate crisis and deteriorating environmental conditions, seeking to keep a global temperature rise this century to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Additionally, the Paris Agreement aims to strengthen the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change combined with their obligations under the 2030 Development Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals to promote sustainable and inclusive development.

Our Delivery Model

GGGI has a unique in-country presence and prominent role as a neutral, trusted advisor and strategic development partner embedded in Member and partner governments. This special arrangement or positioning sets GGGI apart from other international development and environmental development partners that collectively serve the agenda of green growth and conservation.

GGGI serves the role of an enabler and facilitator of Members’ transition into a low-carbon green economy, providing policy advice and technical support in the development of green growth plans, policies and regulations, mobilization of green investments, implementation of green growth projects, and development of local capacities and knowledge sharing.

GGGI’s value chain cuts a wide swathe from green impact assessment, to strategy and planning, to financing and implementation and knowledge sharing. By linking policy and implementation along the value chain, GGGI supports its Members to develop and implement green growth plans and strategies adopted by governments, translated into green investment plans and financing vehicles aligned with national priorities and supported by knowledge sharing and best practices, and finally, on the right side – the design, financing and implementation of green growth projects.

Members of GGGI

Since its establishment as an international organization in 2012, GGGI’s membership has grown from 18 founding signatories to the Agreement on the Establishment of GGGI (the “Establishment Agreement”). An enlarged membership offers the opportunity for GGGI to have a stronger global voice and reach; drawing upon the experience and lessons learning from a broader pool of green growth experiences.AngolaAustraliaBahrainBurkina FasoCambodiaColombiaCosta RicaCôte d’IvoireDenmarkEcuadorEthiopiaFijiGuyanaHungaryIndonesiaJordanKazakhstanKiribatiKorea, Republic ofKyrgyz RepublicLao PDRMexicoMongoliaNepalNicaraguaNorwayOECSPakistanPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesQatarRwandaSenegalSri LankaThailandTongaTurkmenistanUAEUgandaUKUzbekistanVanuatuViet Nam

GGGI’s Governing Bodies

GGGI’s objectives and activities in support of developing countries and emerging economies are detailed in the Establishment Agreement ratified by Member countries in 2012. Membership to GGGI is open to any member state of the United Nations that subscribes to the organizations goals and objectives. Regional integration organizations are also eligible for GGGI membership. GGGI’s governance structure, as outlined in the Agreement, includes an Assembly, a Council, and the Institute.

The Assembly, composed of all GGGI members, meets every year and advises on the overall direction of GGGI and reviews the organization’s progress in meeting its stated objectives. The Assembly also elects Council members, appoints a Director-General, and reviews the organization’s progress in meeting its stated objectives. The Council serves as the executive organ of GGGI and thus approves the organization’s strategy, budget, admission of new members, and criteria for green growth planning and implementation programs. The Institute is headed by the Director-General, who represents GGGI externally and provides strategic leadership for the organization to carry out its objectives.
